In this interview, she tells us about her passion for music, her growth, her projects and her dreams.
Reading her is like listening to a symphony.
Let’s go!
Why did you decide to be a singer?
As a child, I was singing all the time. I was captivated by disco music in particular and singers such as Gloria Gaynor and Donna Summer. I would sing their songs for hours. My favorite being I Will Survive, Last Dance, On the Radio, Bad Girls, etc. I wanted to make the same sounds as them and I learned early that I could. I just sang all the time and I wanted to be a singer.
What were your musical references?
Growing up, my influences were Disco, Pop and musicals! Big singing voices such as Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Martha Walsh to name a few.
How would you define your musical style?
I have many different sides to my musical style and voice. I sing Broadway, Opera, Pop, Rock, R&B and, of course, dance music. I am able to naturally adjust to whatever style I’m singing at the moment. I have a Broadway background and toured nationally and internationally with shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Sound of Music, Grease and more.
How do you take care of your voice?
I drink a lot of water to stay hydrated and before a show I will do vocal warm ups.
What was the turning point in your career?
The turning point was making the decision to move to NYC to professionally pursue my dreams. And then, of course, getting to tour doing what I love to do the most…sing! Another big turning point was meeting DJ Aron and making amazing music that’s listened to all over the world.
How do you prepare your productions when choosing costumes, hairstyle, etc...? Do you like to maintain the same aesthetic line?
I have a gown designer who custom makes my gowns and pieces. Depending on the party, I choose a particular color of the gown I will wear or have a new gown made. Gowns are my favorite because they have long dramatic sleeves and crystals and some even have feathers. I love the glamour!
How is the production process of your songs?
An idea will come to mind for a song, whether it be lyrics or a melody. Then, I work with my producer and we write and create it around that idea or intent of the song. A song idea is never rushed and can take several months or even a year, before it becomes the final draft. Once there is a final draft, I go to a studio to record the vocals and then it’s produced with the music tracks by my producer. My vocal recording process can run for one or two sessions of about 4 hours each, to make sure everything is perfected.
Once the song is finalized, it gets submitted to be released on all of the music platforms such as iTunes, Spotify, Amazon etc.
You work a lot with Aron, one of the top DJs on the circuit. Tell us about your relationship with him.
It's a long and amazing story but, in a nutshell, I casually ran into DJ Aron at a Gay Pride party in New York City in June of 2012. I was singing to whatever music was being played at that moment and he heard me, called me over and mentioned he was working on a song for a club in Brazil and needed a singer… The rest is history. That was 10 years ago and I could have never imagined the incredible musical journey we were going to take!!! It has been truly special getting to make our tracks and music videos. We became a strong team and good friends.
